Having grown up and recently transplanted from a tropical Island to Florida, I can understand your need for a tropical garden. Here are some of the flowers I have to remind me of my beautiful island home.
    1. Red Hibiscus and Yellow Hibiscus, either single or double bloom.
    2. Yellow or red centered plumeria.
    3. bottle brush plant (red)
    4. geraniums either red or yellow
    5. I would suggest planting a bird of paradise also with a combination of beautiful colors.
    6. Bouganvilla would also look nice in your tropical garden
and it comes in a variety of pinks, reds, and yellows.

Some other plants to Lantana, Canna, Musa, Lotus and Verbena. There are quite a few choices out there. Best is to contact your local nursery (not the big box store, but a real nursery) and ask them to suggest plant for you.
